A Mother's Blessing: The Devotion of Bayazid Bostami
Bayazid
stepped out into the cold, dark night with the empty pitcher in hand. The
streets were silent, and the stars above twinkled faintly, casting a dim light
on his path. Despite the eerie silence and the shadows that danced around him,
Bayazid’s heart was filled with courage—his love for his mother was stronger
than any fear.
He
walked a long distance through the quiet town, searching for a place where he
could find water. After some time, he reached a well at the edge of the
village. Drawing water from the well was not easy, but Bayazid did not
hesitate. He filled the pitcher carefully and began his journey back home.
When
he returned, he found his mother still asleep. Not wanting to disturb her, he
stood by her side with the pitcher in his hand, waiting patiently. Hours
passed, but Bayazid did not move. He remained standing, ready to serve his
mother the moment she awoke.
Finally,
as dawn broke and the first rays of sunlight entered the room, his mother
stirred. Seeing Bayazid standing beside her with the water, she was deeply
moved. Tears filled her eyes as she realized the extent of her son’s love and
devotion.
She
raised her hands in prayer and blessed Bayazid with all her heart. That sincere
blessing from his mother became a turning point in Bayazid’s life. It is said
that her heartfelt prayer helped him attain great spiritual heights and wisdom,
and he became one of the most revered saints in Islamic history.
