A friend in need is a friend indeed
Once there were two friends living in the same village. They loved each
other very much. The village people took it as a model. One day two friends
were going through a dense forest. When they reached the middle of the forest,
suddenly they saw a bear coming towards them. Both became frightened. One of
the friends knew how to climb up a tree but the other was unable to do it. The
first friend quickly climbed up a tree. He did not think about the safety of
his friend.
The second friend, realizing he couldn’t climb the tree, quickly lay down
on the ground and held his breath, pretending to be dead. He had heard that
bears do not attack dead bodies.
The bear came near him, sniffed around his ears and face, and then slowly
walked away, believing the man was dead.
After the bear disappeared into the forest, the friend who had climbed
the tree came down. He asked jokingly, “What did the bear whisper in your ear?”
The second friend looked at him seriously and replied, “The bear told me
not to trust a friend who leaves you in danger.”
From that day on, their friendship was never the same. The second friend
learned a valuable lesson: true friends stand by each other in times of need.
